The Office of Cameron County Judge Eddie Trevino Jr. and the Office of Emergency Management announced Thursday they have secured contact-free facial temperature check kiosks for county facilities that are more highly used by the public.
In a press release, officials said the kiosks will assist in self-screening the temperature of both employees and visitors to and from county buildings to determine if they are eligible to enter the building.
“The kiosks are equipped with innovative thermal camera technology that direct you to utilize a facial covering/mask while being screened,” the press release reads.
Treviño said in the press release they are committed to ensure the safety of the employees and the community during this COVID-19 pandemic. He said this measure will help keep constituents and employees safe.
“ Among the measures in place to try and ensure COVID-19 doesn’t spread in our community are temperature checks, and this measure will determine if you are eligible to enter a County building therefore ensuring that all constituents and employees when in a County building are safe,” he said. “We purchased these devices to ensure the safety of everyone when conducting county business.”
As of late Thursday afternoon, there have been 4,905 COVID-19 cases reported in Cameron County and 2,670 individuals who have recovered from the virus.
As part of the COVID-19 action response plan, Cameron County Public Health is conducting epidemiological investigations to determine transmission and contract tracing to identify potential exposures, a press release by Cameron County Public Health reads.
