Brownsville Public Utilities Board is reporting an additional 18 employees have tested positive for the coronavirus.
BPUB reports the results of the positive tests were received June 26 through July 7.
In a press release, BPUB reports 17 of the employees were last in the office between June 5 and June 26. The other employee was last in the office on March 17.
BPUB reports several actions have already been taken as a precautionary measure, including: a deep cleaning of the employees’ work areas, a deep cleaning of common areas and working with city and county health officials.
The utility company states it will continue to follow CDC guidelines for workplace safety, require employees to use facial coverings, promote good hygiene practices and share health, safety and travel guidelines with all employees.
BPUB wants to reassure customers that there is still staff on hand for ongoing electric, water and wastewater operations and customer service inquiries. Many departments are working from remote locations until the pandemic eases, the press release states. BPUB offices have been closed to visitors and customers since March 17.
