Lockdown at Mercedes school lifted following shooting near campus

The Mercedes Police Department said there are no injuries following a shooting that happened Monday afternoon near the Mercedes Early College Academy.

The city said in a Facebook post around 6:30 p.m. that the police apprehended four people accused of being involved in the incident.

The Mercedes school district said in a Facebook post that its administration was notified at 5:07 p.m. that a shooting happened near the campus.

“Our campus administration took the precaution to ensure the safety of our students and staff, so we immediately implemented our ‘lockdown’ procedures,” the post stated.

No students or staff were “directly” involved in the situation, the district said.

The district said police said at 6:10 p.m. that “the situation was under control” and the lockdown was lifted.
