Husband, wife found shot to death at their home near Lasara

LASARA — Authorities are investigating a possible murder-suicide.

LASARA — Authorities are investigating a possible murder-suicide.

Donald and Sandra Durbin were found dead Monday afternoon in their home west of Lasara, Willacy County Sheriff Larry Spence said Tuesday.

Spence said the couple was shot to death at the house near the intersection of FM 88 and County Road 2810.

“It’s looking like a murder-suicide,” Spence said. “It’s a typical family thing — problems and stuff.”

Investigators believe a rifle at the scene was used in the shooting, Spence said.

Justice of the Peace Rudy Cantu, who pronounced the couple dead, has ordered an autopsy.

“He was a good person,” Cantu said, describing Durbin as a farmer or rancher.

Cantu said Durbin and his wife have grown children.

“I knew him for quite a while,” Cantu said. “He was a normal person.”

Spence said he was awaiting autopsy results.

The sheriff’s department is working with the Texas Rangers and the Willacy County District Attorney’s Office.

Spence declined to disclose further information.
