Advice: Live as if your life will improve

BY MARIA LUISA SALCINES

The way you perceive what happens to you determines your degree of happiness.

It was Marianne Williamson who said, “Joy is what happens to us when we allow ourselves to recognize how good things really are.”

Here’s a grand revelation if you’ve yet to have reached it yourself: adult life isn’t easy. However, you ought not let your problems cloud the good that is happening in your life.

Otherwise you run the risk of waking up one day to realize a good deal of your life has been wasted whining and complaining during the best time of your life.

A line from the movie Boiler Room instructs to “act as if.” It’s a great line to remember when you are facing obstacles or working toward improving your life.

If you believe in the law of attraction, as I do, you must act as if you already have what you want and you are already as happy as you wish to be.

If you work as an assistant in a company and want to be offered a better job, work, dress and conduct yourself as if you already hold that position.

If you complain about how you haven’t been promoted, you are attracting negative attention.

Sometimes, pretending that you are happier than you really are can help you feel better and thus get you through a slump.

By transforming your attitude, you may attract more positivity into your life.

It’s best not to live your life focusing on your problems. Instead, look at what you do have with a grateful heart.

Wake up every morning and create a mental list of all the things you are thankful for. Don’t waste your life waiting for good news to come to provide you with happiness.

If you are going through health issues, find something good within the bad that you can be thankful for. If you have made a mistake, make amends and be grateful for the lesson.

If you are looking for a partner in life, be the kind of person you are searching for.

Life is never perfect, but there are always sunsets and a sky filled with stars to give us all hope.

Dwell in the magic of the little things and you will find more big things coming your way.

Happy New Year!
