Brownsville PD to release more info on officer-involved shooting

Brownsville police are working to identify two, possibly three, suspects who authorities shot at during an auto theft investigation Tuesday afternoon.

Police spokesman J.J. Trevino said the department will release more information about the suspects Wednesday afternoon.

At 3:25 p.m., Brownsville police say officers conducting an auto theft investigation on the 2100 block of Autumn Sage observed a stolen vehicle.

The police officers tried to make contact with a man who disregarded commands and fled the scene, placing the officers in harms way, according to a police statement posted on Facebook.

“The driver tried to run the officer over,” Trevino said.

Authorities are unaware whether any injuries were sustained and the case remains under investigation, according to the statement.

Police are asking anyone with information on the suspect’s identity or current whereabouts to call Brownsville Crime Stoppers at (956) 546-TIPS (8477).

All calls are anonymous and information provided could result in a cash reward.
