EDINBURG — Hidalgo County kicked off the 84th annual South Texas County Judges and Commissioners Association conference in McAllen on Tuesday.
Precinct 4 Commissioner Joseph Palacios, who serves as president of the association, welcomed elected officials from 63 counties at the McAllen Convention Center, where the conference will run through Thursday.
Elected officials from across the southern region will have the opportunity to participate in 20 different continuing education sessions throughout the event at the convention center and at Embassy Suites. Topics of the sessions will range from right of way legal issues, regulations, interlocal agreements, cybersecurity, legislative issues, and more.
County commissioners may receive up to 12 hours of mandatory education credit, while judges may earn up to four hours of judicial education credit.
“With more than 1,200 active members from the 63 counties our association represents, we expect this year’s conference to have a large economic impact on our region,” Palacios said. “More importantly, we have the opportunity to showcase our county and educate the other officials about our region.”
