A property that has sat vacant for decades is expected to be cleared soon to make way for a new development in the heart of the city.
Edinburg natives Eulalio Jasso and Apolonia Jasso opened Jasso’s Tortilla & Bakery on the North Closner Boulevard property in 1945, sending tortillas across the Rio Grande Valley and Corpus Christi until it closed in 1996.
Homer Jasso Sr., grandson of Eulalio Jasso and Apolonia Jasso, recently repurchased the land and will be opening his own restaurant there, Don Pepe’s Express restaurant.
The building was built in 1925 as a car dealership.
