The City of Brownsville will offer its first city-led vaccination clinic starting at 6 a.m. Friday at the Texas Southmost College ITEC center, where 2,000 vaccines will be administered for individuals 65 years of age and above.
This event is in partnership with the State of Texas, Cameron County and the Brownsville Independent School District. Pre-registration for the vaccine is required. Those eligible can register at btxcares.com starting at 8 a.m. Thursday.
Those who do not have internet access can call the City of Brownsville COVID-19 Helpline at (956) 394-0012. No walk-ins will be allowed at the vaccination clinic.
“The City of Brownsville was notified on February 1, 2021 by the Department of State Health Services as an approved provider of the covid-19 vaccine,” the press release reads.
“This designation will allow us at the city to directly access more vaccines and events are coming very soon.”
Individuals will be allowed to begin lining up for the event at 4 a.m. Friday and there will be portable potties available for those who need them. The Brownsville Police Department will be on site for traffic control.
When asked how the community would know if there are no more available vaccines during registration, officials said the registration will shut off when full.
The press release states individuals must present a valid photo ID and must always remain in their vehicles. The public is strongly encouraged to download and complete the consent and IMMTrac forms ahead of time to expedite this process. This mass vaccination clinic will have a minimum of 15 vaccination stations.
“The City urges residents to continue to practice social distancing, avoid crowded places, wear face coverings, and wash their hands frequently to minimize the spread of COVID-19,” the release reads.
The ITEC Center is located at 301 Mexico Blvd.
