Runoff elections under way

The runoff elections are under way in Cameron County with voters electing who will represent their party in the November general election.

There is only one race in the Republican Party runoff and that is for the Constable Pct. 1 area.

Cameron County Elections Administrator Remi Garza states: “There are only seven precincts in the Laguna Madre Area that vote today (In the Republican Party runoff.) They include the cities of Port Isabel, South Padre Island, The Town of Laguna Vista and the western most portion of the Southmost Area in Brownsville.  All other Republican precincts do not have to go the polls today.

All the other races were decided during the March Primary. We appreciate the efforts made to participate in these runoff, but please remember if you voted in the Republican Primary in March you are not qualified to vote in this runoff unless you live in the Constable Precinct 1 jurisdictional boundaries.”

Democratic voters are voting in runoffs in the race for sheriff, 138th state district judge and state senator.

The polls will be open until 7 p.m. today.
