The Brownsville Public Utilities Board announced Friday six additional employees have tested positive for COVID-19 with positive tests confirmed July 4 through 10.
Employees were last seen at a BPUB facility on dates ranging from April 1 to July 7. Officials said several actions have been taken as a precautionary measure, including a deep cleaning of the employees’ work areas, a deep cleaning of common areas and working with city and county health officials.
“ BPUB will continue to follow CDC guidelines for workplace safety, require employees to use facial coverings, promote good hygiene practices and share health, safety and travel guidelines with all employees,” a press release reads.
Officials said they want to reassure customers that there is still staff on hand for ongoing electric, water and wastewater operations and customer service inquiries. Many departments are working from remote locations until the pandemic eases. BPUB offices have been closed to visitors and customers since March 17.
“ BPUB is encouraging the community to practice social distancing by making account inquiries or paying bills online or by phone to help flatten the curve of COVID-19,” the press release reads.
