Mexican man’s body found in Mission canal bank

The body of a 20-year-old Mexican man was found Sunday in a canal bank in Mission, police said.

Art Flores, spokesman for the Mission Police Department, said the man was found at 1:40 p.m. Sunday and that his cause of death appeared to be drowning. He added that there was no threat to the public.

The body was found in the canal bank near the Mission bike trails at 1414 S. Conway Ave.

On Saturday, officials continued to search for more victims following the discovery of at least nine migrants who died trying to cross the rain-swollen Rio Grande near Eagle Pass, according to the Associated Press. It is one of the deadliest drownings on the U.S.-Mexico border in recent history.
