Cameron County late Friday received confirmation of 12 reports of COVID-19 cases.
This raises the total number of cases to 159 in Cameron County.
Of those, 52 individuals have recovered.
“Of the twelve cases we are reporting, half of them are related to a previously reported case. This shows how quickly the virus is transmitted to another individual, and in many cases, that person is a loved one,” stated Esmeralda Guajardo, Health Administrator. “We continue to emphasize the importance of physical distancing, especially when someone is showing signs and symptoms.”
The new cases include:
• Brownsville: 43-year-old female, community
• Brownsville: 60-year-old male, community
• Brownsville: 55-year-old female, link to previous case
• Brownsville: 57-year-old female, linked to previous case
• Brownsville: 21-year-old male, linked to previous case
• Brownsville: 30-year- old male, linked to previous case
• Brownsville: 52-year-old male, linked to previous case
• Harlingen: 40-year-old female, linked to previous case
• Harlingen: 50-year-old female, linked to previous case
• Harlingen: 74-year-old male, linked to previous case
• Los Fresnos: 42-year-old female, linked to previous case
• Santa Rosa: 20year-old male, linked to previous case.
As part of the COVID-19 action response plan, Cameron County Public Health is conducting epidemiological investigations and contact tracing as needed. Cameron County Public Health continues to monitor the situation and will provide updates as they are received.
Cameron County recommends that the public abide by the Shelter In Place Order issued by Cameron County Judge Eddie Trevino, Jr and continue practicing preventative measures.
