Harlingen Mayor Chris Boswell and Dr. Michael Mohun, Health Authority for the City of Harlingen, are recommending residents use face masks or coverings while in public.
The masks or coverings can be scarves, bandanas, or other facial coverings made out of cloth and fabric items as recommended by the Centers for Diseas Control.
The directive follows the CDC call for the use of cloth face coverings as an additional measure to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The advisory is a result of the recent spike in COVID-19 positive cases in Harlingen and the region.
Boswell and Mohun have determined that it is in the public interest to remind and alert the general public of the importance of taking additional steps to prepare for, respond to, and mitigate the spread of COVID-19 to help protect the public health and welfare of the City of Harlingen.
Meantime, the City of Harlingen continues to observe the Cameron County Shelter in Place Order. This means that people should stay at home unless traveling for essential services such as going to work, the doctor, or buying groceries.
