It’s dance time: Conjunto Noche De Ronda event set for Saturday

SAN BENITO — The Texas Conjunto Music Hall of Fame and Museum will host its 12th Annual Pre-Valentine’s Day Noche De Ronda Dance and Scholarship Fundraiser featuring the New Variety Band Feb. 3.

The event is set from 8 p.m. to midnight at the San Benito Knights of Columbus Hall, 826 E. Stenger Street.

Admission is $20 per person.

All net proceeds will go to support the Museum organization and the annual Texas Conjunto Music Hall of Fame Scholarship fund.

Entertainment will feature the New Variety Band.

The band was founded in 1985 by Arturo Gutierrez and Shelby Medina. Leading the band is one of the best duets in the Tejano music circuit, showcasing the talents of Agnes Torres and Arturo Gutierrez, who have been nominated for duo and vocalists of the year several times at the Tejano Music Awards in San Antonio. Among their songs are “Como Tu Mujer,” “Por Tu Maldito Amor” and “La Pareja Ideal.”

Over the years they recorded over 15 LPs and videos for Sony, CBS, and Capitol Records.

They have appeared on the Johnny Canales and Aqui Rogelio TV shows several times over the past 20 years. The duo toured in Mexico and all over the United States.

Agnes Torres was inducted into the Buddy Holly Museum in Lubbock in 2005.
