Cold front brings high seas, winds for boaters

HARLINGEN — Forecasters have issued a small craft advisory for bay and gulf waters today, compliments of the latest cold front to punch into the Valley.

Moderate to strong north winds and high seas will occur today in coastal waters from Baffin Bay to the Rio Grande, and extend out 20 miles into the gulf.

Winds will be from 23 to 29 mph and seas in the gulf will reach five to seven feet.

The advisory remains in effect until 9 p.m. tonight.

Elsewhere, temperatures will continue to drop over the course of the day, and by 8 p.m. will be between 46 and 50 degrees in the Valley.

On Thursday, lows will be between 39 and 44 degrees with highs only reaching the low to mid-50s.

On Friday and Saturday, highs will creep back up to the mid-60s and 70s before another cold front arrives on New Year’s Eve.

Rain and falling temperatures will accompany the front, and on New Year’s Day expect a 50 percent chance of rain with highs in the low 40s to mid-50s. Lows will be about the same.
