Harlingen schools top rated for finances

HARLINGEN — They did it again.

For the 15th year in a row, the Harlingen school district has received a top rating under the Financial Integrity Reporting System of Texas (FIRST).

“We are proud to have had the highest rating in each of those years,” said Julio Cavazos, chief financial officer.

“The state’s school financial accountability rating system ensures that Texas public schools are held accountable for the quality of their financial management practices,” he said.

That system also ensures that public schools improve on those practices, he said.

The rating is for the 2016-2017 school year.

“I have a great business office staff that understands our goal of being fiscally responsible and financially transparent to our taxpayers as well as providing central office support to our campus staff,” he said.
