Travis Elementary leaders selected for initiative

Campus leaders at Travis Elementary have been selected to participate in the 2017 Raising Family Partnerships Fellowship, a Raise Your Hand Texas initiative.

The family engagement fellowship seeks to redesign how families, schools, and communities collaborate to improve student outcomes across the state.

“We are very excited to have been selected to participate in this fellowship,” said Principal Beulah Rangel. “My vision is to create initiatives that take a partnership approach where school improvement and student achievement are both seen as a shared responsibility between families and our school staff. I want all of us to see each other as equal partners working together for school improvement and student achievement.”

The all-expenses-paid camp experience will provide 20 campus leadership teams the opportunity to solidify their family engagement goals and strategies, leadership approaches, and current practices.

The year-long program kicks off in summer 2017 with an intensive design camp.

Rangel, Assistant Principal Jesse Saldivar, and Director of Parental Involvement Dr. Jose Luis Cavazos will be representing Travis and HCISD in the first cohort of the program.

Campus leaders will learn and apply the latest research on family engagement to design a cohesive plan to implement and continually improve, using input and feedback from families, peer fellows, and experts in the field.

With student achievement at the forefront, Travis leaders hope to bring back what they’ve learned to help empower families in their community and to share their new-found knowledge with campus leaders across HCISD.
