EDINBURG— The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley was ranked third university in the nation to award the highest number of degrees to Hispanic students by an national online publication.
The higher education news platform and magazine Diverse: Issues in Higher Education released the rankings in its Aug. 25 issue titled “The 25th Annual Top 100 Bachelor’s Master’s Doctoral Degrees Conferred.
In this issue UTRGV ranked third highest awarding institution of bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate degrees awarded to Hispanics during the 2014-2015 school year.
“This is a tremendous honor for UTRGV,” said UTRGV Provost Havidán Rodríguez in a news release. “We strive to serve our students from all backgrounds, and it is truly a privilege to be recognized for our commitment and dedication to our Hispanic community in the Rio Grande Valley.”
During the 2014-2015 academic year, the Valley still had its two legacy institutions UT-Pan American and UT-Brownsville. The new university opened its doors in the fall of 2015, as its two legacy institutions were dissolved to create one university to serve the entire area.
