PORT ISABEL — Illegal and unethical.
Personal and political vendettas.
Unabated retaliation.
Those are just some of the claims former city manager Edward Meza is making against the city of Port Isabel and members of its government.
Meza has filed a federal lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Brownsville. He was terminated from his position in May of 2015.
Now, he is claiming a violation of his rights because of wrongful termination, breach of his severance package agreement, individual liability due to what Meza calls a “conspiracy” to remove him from office and other claims.
Although current City Manager Jared Hockema said city officials do not comment on pending litigation, he did say yesterday he has read the lawsuit and added the city is denying the allegations.
