Police: Arrest made in Port Isabel fatal shooting

PORT ISABEL— A possible argument resulted in an afternoon shooting on Monday and police now say they have one person in custody.

Port Isabel Chief of Police Robert Lopez said the department received a call around 5:45 p.m. Monday regarding a man being shot.

“Officers arrived and encountered a man who had been shot and was laying in the ground. We contacted EMS and they transported him, shortly after arriving at the hospital he passed away,” Lopez said.

“It happened in an alleyway of a small trailer park off of South Shore Drive,” he said.

According to Lopez, a witness at the scene told them the victim was stepping out of the trailer when he collapsed.

“It was a bunch of friends and I think there was an argument that led to the shooting. It is preliminary right now, but we do have a person of interest,” he said.

Possible suspects were interviewed last night, but according to Lopez they were let go after and were considered witnesses.

Police say they have arrested Guadalupe Roman Fonseca Garcia in connection with the shooting, but have given few details. They searched for Garcia on Monday night.

“We are trying to locate him, the person of interest. We checked several homes last night but have not been able to locate him,” Lopez said.
