Port Isabel police warn public of check scam

PORT ISABEL — Authorities are warning the public about a recent check scam.

According to a post from the department’s Facebook page, authorities have been receiving calls about random checks being delivered by Fed-Ex, UPS and other postal carriers that are meant to lure unsuspecting victims, such as the elderly.

“Please do not fall for this scam,” the post states. “Fake checks come in many forms.”

The checks might look like business or personal checks, cashier’s checks, money orders or a check delivered electronically, the post states.
