Island art gallery invites Winter Texans to exhibit

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND — Winter Texans will be able to witness the talent of local artists and showcase their own at this upcoming art night dedicated to them.

Art Business Incubator South Padre Island (ABISPI), a nonprofit art gallery, will host a Winter Texan event Saturday from 4 to 6 p.m. at 2500 Padre Blvd.

The event will have complimentary refreshments and art deals.

Visiting Winter Texans will be able to get a free drink ticket at the entrance of the event by presenting their out-of-state ID.

The event will also enable Winter Texans to show off their artistic talent.

Those interested in showcasing and selling their own artwork at the event can complete an event vendor form or sign up in person at ABISPI.

“The Winter Texan Night will be one of our more casual events of the year, with no set schedule or presentations,” said Alexa Ray, ABISPI Program Director. “This is a chance for visitors to check out our new space and get to know our artists.”

ABISPI opened Nov. 14, 2019, with an aim to promote local artists and their success on the Island.

Ray said since then, the attention and support ABISPI has received for the program and art space has been extraordinary and much appreciated.

Artwork

Magnets, ornaments, prints and paintings are some of many art pieces that can be purchased at ABISPI.

All artwork is painted and sculpted by local artists who have been accepted into its Art Business Incubator program.

Currently, there are three painters and one ceramicist participating in the art incubator program.

“Our painters work with bright and colorful acrylic paint on canvas,” Ray said. “Our ceramicist derives much of her inspiration from Mexican-American heritage and her coastal surroundings.”

Ray said depending on the medium of artwork, the program has room to accept two to three more artists.
