Area teams to take part in Harlingen Invitational

HARLINGEN — Harlingen High will hold the Harlingen Invitational at 8:30 a.m. at the Sports Complex on Wilson Road.

Harlingen High, Harlingen South, Brownsville Veterans Memorial, Brownsville Hanna, PSJA High and Mission High are some teams listed to compete in the meet.

The Cardinals come into the meet with some confidence and, despite having a young group, the Cards have grown up a bit. Brothers Ivan and Abel Montante will look to have an impact, along with Geovany Cisneros and Don Luna.

“We are really looking forward to competing at home,” Harlingen High’s Efrain Ambiz said. “The boys have run well the last few meets, and we expect our top guys to step up (today).”

On the girls side, Victoria Scarerry and Kelsey Rodriguez have provided the team with consistency. Lady Cards coach Eder Ramos is excited for the duo to take the race.

“Our girls are led by Kelsey and Victoria,” Ramos said. “They have been consistent in their training and performances, and they can’t wait to run.”

Harlingen South also will compete and is preparing for district, which will be held next month.

“We are good. We are looking good overall, and team-wise there will be some good competition out there,” South coach Julian Robles said. “Us and Harlingen High always bring in some good competition. There are some good teams in this meet.”

Idol Ramon and Daylon Hernandez will look to lead the Hawks on the boys side. On the girls side, Arianna Rodriguez, Madison Meyers and Alex Perez are the team leaders.

“We have had some great meets, and the boys are playing well. We are just trying to make strides in the right direction and prepare for district.” Robles said.
