HARLINGEN — And the kudos just keep coming in.
The Harlingen school board has worked steadily to create more opportunities for students to succeed, including the creation of academies, a conservatory and classes to get certified in numerous fields.
Their work continues to grab the attention of people near and far, this time from the Texas Association of School Administrators.
TASA has just named the Harlingen CISD Board of Trustees the board of the year for Region One. Harlingen school superintendent Art Cavazos commended the board for the recognition.
“I am super proud to work alongside the distinguished Harlingen CISD Board of Trustees, whose foresight and united vision has resulted in the momentous award,” he said. “Each time they meet and make vital and impactful decisions for our students, they utilize an insurmountable amount of creative acumen, intellectual power and sharpness.”
School board President Nolan Perez was delighted by the recognition.
“The board is honored to have been recognized at the regional level,” he said. “Our board members are passionate about improving the lives of students. We are dedicated to ensuring our decisions have a significant impact on their lives. We are excited to represent South Texas as the board of the year, and we look forward to continuing our service to all the students and staff of HCISD.”
Winning school boards from throughout Texas will be interviewed in September by the TASA/TASB Convention in Dallas. One will be named outstanding school board of the year.
TASB stands for Texas Association of School Boards. TASA is the professional association for Texas school superintendents and other administrators.
The mission of the organization, which focuses on professional learning, advocacy and member engagement, is to promote, provide and develop leaders who create and sustain student-centered schools and develop future-ready students.
