Valley Charlotte Russe stores not on closings list

HARLINGEN — Three Rio Grande Valley Charlotte Russe teen clothing stores are not on a closings list released late yesterday afternoon.

The same day troubled apparel retailer Charlotte Russe filed for bankruptcy, executives said in the Chapter 11 filing they would seek to sell assets at an auction, and that they will close 94 of their 512 stores in the United States.

Charlotte Russe stores at Valle Vista mall, Rio Grande Premium Outlets in Mercedes and La Plaza Mall in McAllen are not on the list of stores to be closed.

But elsewhere in Texas, Charlotte Russe mall stores in Fort Worth, Cedar Hill, Waco, Victoria and New Braunfels will be shut down, according to press reports.

In its filing in Delaware, the company listed assets between $500 million and $1 billion with liabilities ranging from $100 million to $500 million.

The company also includes 10 stores called Peek Kids which sell baby and children’s clothes. None of these operate in the Rio Grande Valley.

The retailer’s filing follows a number of retail bankruptcies last year, including Claire’s, Bon-Ton Stores, The Walking Company, Nine West, Brookstone and National Stores, among others.
