SAN BENITO — The Stephen King spooky stories are way past the kids’ section, down a long isle of books near the back of the library.
But don’t just check out one of his famous horror novels; come and see the annual costume contest or participate in all the Halloween fun at the San Benito Library.
The library is hosting a Halloween Program Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.
The program is open to the public.
“We have created two cemeteries in the library and are in the process of decorating the library to make it look like a haunted house,” said Gerardo Salazar, library director. “We are going to have a costume contest, games, zombie trots and dancing as well as treats for the children.”
There is a special treat for adults who enjoy music as well.
“We will also be hosting Pedro Romero, professional accordionist, who will be playing live while the program is ongoing at one side of the library,” Salazar said.
Pedro Romero, a New Mexico native, is an international musician who has performed all around the world.
In addition to all the activities, the library is hosting its annual Dia De Los Muertos Community Altar.
“I am inviting community members to bring photographs of their loved ones to honor,” Salazar said.
“There is a lot going on here for Halloween. People and the community are not going to want to miss it,” Salazar said. “I expect more than 500 people will visit the library.”
