Police seek the identity of a man linked to robbery

HARLINGEN — A man who snatched money from a cash register attendant at a local store is wanted.

Police continue to investigate last month’s robbery at Alma’s Treasures.

The reporting party advised police that an unknown man entered the store and asked to see some merchandise.

The male suspect was described as being a Hispanic in his 50s or 60s with a mustache and wearing a blue sweatshirt.

According to police, the man allegedly asked the clerk if she had change for a $100 bill.

Police said the clerk proceeded to remove the change from the register when the man grabbed the money out of the clerk’s hand, and fled from the store. The man was seen leaving the area in a tan-colored Chevy Trailblazer.

“Don’t have money within arms reach when it’s taken out of the cash register,” said Larry Moore, Harlingen Police sergeant, warning retail employees.

He said often suspicious customers will give signs.

“They are looking at where the exits are at, where the cameras are at and that gives you a heads up they may be thinking of doing something,” Moore said. “Be mindful and a lot of times guys will be nervous and looking around.”

The alleged robbery occurred on Sept. 19, at approximately 12:10 p.m. on the 800 block of E. Tyler Street.
