Success of Academies and certification opportunities continue to soar

In addition to balancing academic coursework and extra-curricular activities, HCISD students are reaching new heights. They are gaining insight into today’s top careers in industries of their choice. Following various pathways, their high school careers are infused with authentic learning experiences and certification opportunities.

In 2017, HCISD launched the Apprenticeship, Firefighters, Health Science, Media Arts and Communications, Teacher, and Transportation, Distribution and Logistics academies.

Students enrolled in these academies have completed their first year and worked with local business such as Valley Baptist Medical Center, SpawGlass, Harlingen Fire Department, and more. These opportunities to partner with businesses while studying for certification exams have given students access to additional resources that help guide them as they take the next steps in their educational careers.

The expansion continues as the 2018- 2019 school year will offer additional pathways and certifications within the existing academies.

HCISD works closely with the Texas Workforce Commission to ensure students are adequately prepared for essential careers needed in today and tomorrow’s economy.

These exciting additions to Career and Technical Education (CTE) program go beyond the realm of traditional secondary education. As HCISD works to ensure students achieve postgraduation success, critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creativity are at the forefront of the HCISD CTE
