A new app that’s live-streaming traffic at the Donna-Rio Bravo International Bridge is placing port activity in the palm of your hands.

In addition to northbound traffic being visible via a live view, the Puente Donna app has toll rates, announcements, bridge hours and contact information also available to mobile device users.

Launched by the City of Donna on Apple and Android platforms, as well as being available in Spanish, the app is free to download from the App Store and Google Play.

“The app is a great use of today’s technology to make our crossers aware of the speed and convenience of the Donna-Rio Bravo International Bridge,” Marga Lopez, bridge executive director, said via text message on Thursday. “We are a central location in the ‘Heart of the Valley’ and welcome people warmly to the entire Rio Grande Valley.”

According to a press release, cameras located at the crossing provide the feed for the live-stream, showing footage of traffic entering the U.S.

Designed for international use, Mexican tourists are now provided “a way to enter into the United States with minimal delays,” the release read.

This is news that comes shortly after U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced federal approval of the City of Donna’s development plans at the bridge, which include building commercial inspection stations for northbound and southbound traffic.

The green light was OK’d by the Donations Acceptance Program, a federal program associated with the CBP and U.S. General Services Administration that granted similar approval for other Rio Grande Valley international ports.

Lopez previously said that the bridge in Donna is expected to open for commercial traffic, including fully-loaded trucks, by December 2018.
