Police identify body found in resaca

BROWNSVILLE — Police do not know how the body of a Port Isabel woman ended up in a resaca in Brownsville.

Authorities have identified the woman as Maria del Rosario Buitureida, 53, from Port Isabel.

Her body was found Monday in a resaca next to the Waterside Apartments on the 4200 block of Boca Chica Boulevard.

Authorities say she was visiting a family member who lives in the apartment complex.

They do not know how Buitureida’s body ended up in the resaca.

Cesar Pedraza, assistant fire chief for the Brownsville Fire Department, said the department received a call at 10:28 a.m. on Monday about a body in the water.

Pedraza said that after the body was recovered it was turned over to the Brownsville Police Department for further investigation and identification.

Police spokesman J.J. Treviño said there were no signs of foul play and that authorities are currently waiting for a preliminary autopsy report to determine cause of death.
