Harlingen man killed in ATV crash, cousin charged

HARLINGEN — A Harlingen man is charged with manslaughter after his cousin fell off an all-terrain vehicle and died.

The fatal accident happened on Ebony Road north of FM 508 around 3:38 a.m. Sunday.

Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman Lt. Johnny Hernandez said the two men were driving southbound on Ebony Road when the passenger, Jacob Israel Flores, 28, fell off the ATV and sustained major injuries.

He was transported to Valley Baptist Medical Center where he later died.

The driver, Juan Javier Arredondo, 35, of Harlingen, was initially charged with intoxication assault, but the charge was upgraded to intoxication manslaughter when Flores died.
