Peñitas appoints new municipal judge

PEÑITAS – A new associate municipal judge was appointed during a city council meeting Wednesday.

PEÑITAS – A new associate municipal judge was appointed during a city council meeting Wednesday.

Sonia Treviño, a chiropractor and business owner from Mission, also serves on the Mission school board, according to the news release issued Thursday.

She was previously also a member and Chairperson of the Hidalgo County Civil Service Commission, a board member for the Boys and Girls Club of Mission and a board member for the Education Foundation of Mission CISD, the release stated.

She was joined by her husband and two children as she was sworn in by 449th State District Judge Renee Rodriguez-Betancourt.

Treviño was appointed following the termination of the previous associate municipal judge, Leo Gonzalez, in February after he was arrested for driving while intoxicated, according to jail records.

Mayor Rodrigo “Rigo” Lopez made the recommendation to appoint Treviño, which was approved unanimously by the city council.
