Cameron County district clerk holding egg hunts

The Cameron County District Clerk’s Office is inviting the public to enjoy an early Easter Egg Hunt with it between now and April 13.

District Clerk Eric Garza and his staff hosted the first hunt Thursday in Primera. They have six additional Easter egg hunts planned, including one today at Beulah Lee Park in Port Isabel.

Each event will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The staff will be serving free hot dogs and fruit punch.

“We just want everyone to have a good time,” Garza said. “The public is invited to come have fun, and an Easter Bunny will be there to take pictures with the kids.”

Garza and his staff will be in Los Fresnos Memorial Park on Saturday, La Esperanza Adult Day Care on Monday in La Feria, Santa Maria Park on Tuesday in Santa Maria, Rio Hondo County Park on Wednesday in Rio Hondo, and Kennedy Park on Thursday in San Benito.

More than 15,000 eggs were donated for the event.

The District Clerk’s Office is including two more cities this year.

“We get anywhere from 200 to 400 people in the smaller communities,” Garza said. “It’s a pretty large crowd … we say 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., but they usually stay until 8 p.m.”

Garza said the office does these community events to give back.

“We are often involved in different parts of people’s lives … it’s important they know we are here to support them,” Garza said. “It is our duty to give back, and this is one of the ways we do it.”
