Wind gusts knock out power

HARLINGEN — Persistent 40 mph winds left nearly 9,000 residents without electricity yesterday afternoon.

Gusts blowing through the Rio Grande Valley since early Friday morning resulted in more than 8,400 outages in Hidalgo County by the afternoon.

Power outages also were reported in Cameron County, but most had been fixed by late afternoon yesterday.

Starr County had about 400 customers without power, according to the AEP Texas website.
