D.C. internship sign-up deadline nears

HARLINGEN — Only a few can say they worked in Washington, D.C., and on Capitol Hill.

For some college students, it’s an experience of a lifetime.

Time is running out for college students who would like a chance to take on a summer internship with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute.

Spruce up the resume and reel in letters of recommendation to apply to be considered for the opportunity to be one of tomorrow’s next generation of leaders.

U.S. Rep. Filemon Vela, D-Brownsville, is encouraging college students from the 34th District of Texas to apply.

The institute is accepting internship applications for this summer.

The deadline to apply is Jan. 22. Visit their website to apply at chci.org.

“One of the most rewarding parts of my job is seeing the many bright, energetic young people who come to Capitol Hill each semester to intern with my office,” Vela said.

The opportunity will help students push their organizing and office skills to the limit.

One day could be spent helping constituents, writing a proclamation or helping get a bill through Congress.

The internship is sure to place students with high-profile congressmen and congresswomen and the chance to meet and work with many people from all over the world while experiencing the rich diversity and culture that Washington, D.C., has to offer.

For nearly 40 years, CHCI has forged a pathway to educate, empower and connect the nation’s future Latino leaders, creating a transformative and lasting impact on Latino youth and the nation, the institute says.
