Is America numb to president’s attacks?
What kind of America do we have that a president speaks like this? We should all be horrified by Trump’s incessant insults, but sadly, we have become immune and impervious to Trump’s ad hominem attacks, insults and pejorative name-calling.
His supporters defend the indefensible by saying that he is an “equal-opportunity” offender. So what! It doesn’t make it acceptable or any less inappropriate. His public shaming, bizarre behavior and debased vernacular is destructive to our democracy and to the United States’ reputation globally. If you naively think that the world isn’t tuned into Trump’s unhinged rantings, you’re living under a rock. Our allies are horrified by what is happening in America and stupefied by what they are witnessing.
There’s something repulsively repelling about an individual whose manner of defending himself is to employ crass insults and crude dehumanizing language expressed in the most vulgar and vile terms.
Who believed a few years ago that things would devolve to such a degree that a president of the United States would demean and embarrass the office of the presidency. My heart aches that such an ill-willed, destructive spirit has alighted upon the leadership of the United States of America.
The world is counting on us to rise up from this scourge upon our country. People of goodwill and decency still exist and stand with us. Rise up! Never give in to debasement of our fellow citizens. No matter how little credibility Omarosa has, the man who gave her a top-ranking job in his administration has far less.
We already know Donald Trump is a racist. The more compelling question is, who are we? And why have we allowed it to continue?
Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Donald Trump, the president of the United States.
