Since 2013, the Museum of South Texas History, or MOSTHistory, has participated in Preservation Week, which was started in 2010 by such institutes as the Library of Congress to bring awareness to the “role libraries and other cultural institutions play in providing ongoing preservation, education and information,” according to the American Library Association.
This year, Preservation Week ran from April 23 to 29, and MOSTHistory took part by introducing a Mystery Gallery exhibit in the museum. The exhibit, which will run until May 20, displays photographs dating back as far as the 1800s.
The photos, however, lack complete information, and the museum is asking for the public’s help to fill in the information. The museum is hopeful that someone in the community will “provide new life to the images.”
MOSTHistory is encouraging the public to visit the gallery to see if they have information about the photographs.
Beginning today, The Monitor will publish one photo from the museum every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday until May 19. The images will include the limited information MOSTHistory has on the photo.

The museum has thousands of photographs, many of which don’t have information. With any new details MOSTHistory receives on the images, it will “use that material as an educator, storyteller, and celebrator of borderland heritage …”
