McAllen man sentenced to prison on child porn charges

McALLEN — A McAllen man who pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography was sentenced to more than five years in federal prison Wednesday, according to a news release.

As part of this punishment, Rodrigo Garcia-Fuentes will not only serve a 70-month prison sentence but will also be on lifetime probation, have to register as a sex offender and pay restitution totaling more than $62,000 to victims outlined by the court, court records show.

Federal agents began looking into the 30-year-old man at the beginning of April in 2016, court records show. A couple of months later federal agents raided Garcia-Fuentes’ McAllen home where they seized his personal desktop computer, the complaint states.

“A forensic examination on the computer revealed 650 videos and 658 images of child pornography involving minor children engaged in sexually explicit conduct. These videos included children under the age of 12 involved in sadistic conduct and other depictions of violence,” the release states. “Some of the videos are of known victims as identified through the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.”

After the seizure of the computer, to which Garcia-Fuentes claimed sole ownership, he sat down with federal agents where he admitted to downloading the content.

Garcia-Fuentes, a legal permanent resident, is subject to deportation following the completion of the prison term.
