HIDALGO — The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man whose body was found in the Rio Grande on Saturday.
He is David Palacio Garcia, 40, a Mexican citizen, said Deputy Jena Palacios Pacheco, sheriff’s office spokeswoman.
His family told sheriff’s investigators that he had been missing since Jan. 17.
His body was found in a section of the river located south of Military Highway on 15th Street, according to a news release. His cause of death remains under investigation.
Sheriff’s investigators have reached out to the Mexican consulate and Mexican authorities to assist them with the case, said Palacios.
