PROGRESO — Evelio Gomez has been identified as the victim of Sunday night’s officer-involved shooting.
The 46-year-old is a Mexican national, according to the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office, which is still investigating the incident.
A Progreso police officer fatally shot Gomez, who was allegedly wielding a machete, after a struggle ensued between him and the officer.
