Supporting SB 4
So Hidalgo County Commissioners have joined the bandwagon in opposing SB 4, the anti-sanctuary cities law that took effect Sept. 1. I believe they caved to that one-tenth of 1 percent of our population that makes up LUPE. One day commissioners will wake up to the fact that most of these people can’t vote because they are not U.S. citizens. Since when can we, in a democratic society, pick and choose which laws we obey and which to ignore?
The move did not surprise me as much as the information coming from some of our county officials who say they will soon build a new, $141 million county courthouse without raising taxes. If there is anyone out there who really believes this, then talk to me because I have a bridge in Brooklyn, New York, that I’d like to sell you at a very reasonable price.

Questions abound
In a Sept. 14 front page Monitor article, U.S. Rep. Vicente Gonzalez, D-McAllen, seeks clarity on DACA. I also want clarity on these issues:
>> Why are interest rates for savings accounts and certificates of deposit so low?
>> Why aren’t Drunk driving lawyers incarcerated and disbarred? And why aren’t drunk driving judges incarcerated, removed from office and disbarred?
>> Why are school superintendents paid such high salaries?
>> Why must we pay a tax to eat via a sales tax?
>> Why are auto insurance rates so high?
>> Why are major corporations given tax abatements to locate in a certain community?
>> Why is it so difficult to organize and have other political parties?
We, Americans, need help, too. We also need leadership and representation. We cannot afford to have taxation without representation.
