EDINBURG — A Hidalgo County court employee faces a state jail felony drug charge after a traffic stop Thursday.
Isidro Sepulveda III, 24, of Edinburg, was arrested by a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper Thursday, jail records show.
Sepulveda, who works for the county’s public defender’s office, was charged with driving while intoxicated and possession of a controlled substance, more than 1 gram, the booking record shows.
Sepulveda, who is the son of Isidro Sepulveda Jr., the county’s indigent defense program director, was given a $8,000 bond and released the same day, jail records show.
District Attorney Ricardo Rodriguez Jr., who spoke to The Monitor late Friday evening, confirmed Sepulveda III’s employment with the public defender’s office — but was unaware of his arrest on Thursday.
The arrest of Sepulveda III follows the arrest of another courthouse employee earlier this year.
Jorge Luis Ortegon II, 28, a then-county prosecutor, resigned in February after he was charged with a third-degree felony assault charge in connection with an altercation at a celebration dinner.
Ortegon faces one count of injury to child, elderly, or disabled, after it was alleged that during a gathering at a restaurant he pushed an 83-year-old man, resulting in the man suffering undisclosed injuries, according to authorities.
If convicted of the most serious charge, possession of a controlled substance, Sepulveda faces up to two years in county jail.
