A preliminary investigation found Abraham Cerda, 23, of Brownsville, was driving a Cadillac Escalade northbound in the southbound lane on U.S. 77 when it struck a southbound Ford Expedition SUV at about 1:30 p.m., Lt. Johnny Hernandez of the Texas Department of Public Safety said in a statement.

Rafael Garza, 72, and Catalina Garza, 69, both of Port Isabel, were traveling in the SUV south of Conley Road, Hernandez said.
