Woman’s body found in Laguna Madre

PORT ISABEL — The body of a woman was found in the Laguna Madre by the Coast Guard Sunday evening.

The woman has not been identified.

Investigators believe she was in her 30s, Cameron County Sheriff Omar Lucio said.

“We don’t have too much more information,” Lucio said.

“We’re investigating to determine whether there was foul play involved and we’re looking into whether anyone has any reports of a missing female.”

The body was found some time between 5 and 5:30 p.m. by a Coast Guard crew, the U.S. Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi Command Center said.

The Coast Guard remained at the scene until Cameron County authorities arrived to recover the body, the Command Center said.

Lucio said the investigation is continuing. Calls to the Sheriff and Deputy Sheriff were not returned on Monday for updated information.
