McALLEN — The Sharyland ISD school board named Elaine Howard, deputy superintendent of Boerne ISD, as the finalist for superintendent position with current superintendent Maria Vidaurri retiring.

With 2023 coming to an end, the public education institutions in the Rio Grande Valley saw about eight superintendent changes in addition to school districts passing new tax rates and bonds.

In the search for Sharyland ISD’s next superintendent, the district is looking for school personnel and the public to be involved in the process by listing what leadership qualities they desire for the next person at the helm.

Nubia German from Donna Wernecke Elementary and Denise Rogdriuez from Hidalgo Early College High School won the Region 1 Elementary and Secondary Teacher of the year award and were honored at the Texas Teacher of the Year luncheon in Round Rock.

Texas Boys State delegates participated in reflections presentation and certificates of recognition ceremony recently at Hidalgo County Precinct 1 Conference Center in Weslaco.
