The UTRGV baseball team is set to host No. 7 Texas at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday for a nonconference contest at UTRGV Baseball Stadium in Edinburg.

It will be Texas’ first trip to the Rio Grande Valley since 1971, when then-Pan American won three out of four games against the Longhorns.

“The Texas game is unique because it means more about the Broncs,” UTRGV head coach Derek Matlock said after the game against Texas was announced in November. “This program back in the day was the Broncs, and they were unbelievable. They seta lot of records and did a lot of great things nationally, so for us to get Texas back down here, that’s a great honor, because to me it brings back the Broncs.”

The Vaqueros (22-15, 8-8 WAC) played the Longhorns (28-13, 7-6 Big 12) on April 5 in Austin, losing 13-5.
