The South Texas Showdown baseball tournament has been dominated by the home teams so far as McAllen High, Sharyland High and Sharyland Pioneer improved to 4-0 in the tournament by each picking up another pair of victories Friday.

At Sharyland Pioneer, the Diamondbacks (15-1) scored 29 runs during their two wins — a 12-1 take down of Harlingen High and a 17-1 thrashing of Brownsville Rivera.

A five-run first inning against the Cardinals set the tone for the Diamondbacks. Joshua Benitez brought in three runs on a base-clearing triple, and Juan Rivera hit a three-run, inside-the-park homer.

Ryan Garza, Graham LaGrange and Santiago Ortiz all homered against Rivera. Angel Larranaga and Stevie Quintanilla earned wins on the mound for the Diamondbacks.

At McAllen High, the Bulldogs (12-3) hosted Brownsville Veterans for a doubleheader, winning both games 13-2 and 11-8.

McHi had no problem at the plate with 21 hits over their two games. Ethan Whatley went 2 for 2 with three RBIs and two runs scored in Game 2, while Diego Garcia added a pair of RBIs. Robert Avendano and Jacob Garcia picked up the wins for the Bulldogs.

At Sharyland High, the Rattlers (14-1) defeated Roma 9-5 and Brownsville Rivera 10-0. Jose Acosta delivered at the plate and on the mound against the Raiders with two RBIs on two hits with one walk, while allowing just one hit in four shutout innings. Jose Garcia and Cole Gerlach led the Rattlers with two RBIs against Roma.

The South Texas Showdown baseball tournament concludes today with Harlingen High at McAllen High, Brownsville Veterans at Sharyland High, and Brownsville Rivera at Sharyland Pioneer. First pitch of all three games is scheduled for 11 a.m.

ROWE ROUND ROBIN

At McAllen Rowe, the Warriors muscled out a 5-4 win over Los Fresnos on Friday. Rowe faced a 4-0 deficit heading into the bottom of the fourth, but turned things around with five unanswered runs during to claim victory.

Ramiro Campos, Ruben Campos, and Eric Jackson each drove in one run for the Warriors.

Harlingen South flew past Rio Grande City 12-3 in the day’s second matchup at Rowe.

The Hawks poured it on with 10 runs during the fourth inning, all with one out. Jonadam Bustamante and Ethan Garcia led South with three RBIs apiece, with Chase Roberts and Kenji Reasor each adding two RBIs.

Eden Barrera drove in all three runs for Rio Grande City with a two-RBI single and a sacrifice fly.

The Hawks improve to 11-3 overall this season, while the Rattlers fall to 5-3-1.

McAllen Rowe and Rio Grande City wrap up the tournament at 2 p.m. today at Rowe High School.
