Palmview eliminated from PONY League World Series

South Zone Pony League champion Palmview nearly pulled off a come-from-behind performance against Washington County, Pa., at the 2022 PONY League World Series before ultimately losing 6-5 in an elimination game Tuesday at Lew Hays Pony Field in Washington, Penn.

Palmview was eliminated from the double-elimination PONY League World Series after suffering back-to-back losses against Monterrey, Mexico, (10-4) and Washington County on Monday and Tuesday. Palmview won its opening-round game 1-0 against Washington County on Sunday.

Palmview jumped ahead during the fourth inning Tuesday in its rematch againsnt Washington County after a Matthew Azuara single and a walk to Alfonso Bueno. Osi Lopez laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners into scoring position, and Ezekiel Hernandez brought them home with an infield single on a ground ball to shortstop for a 2-1 lead.

Trailing 6-2 during the seventh, Palmview loaded the bases and scored one run after Anthony Rocha was hit by a pitch. Gilberto Rodriguez Jr. followed with a two-run single to bring the score to 6-5. Palmview loaded the bases with two outs before a flyout ended the game and the team’s run at the PONY League World Series.

The Palmview roster includes Nicolas Valdez, Osi Lopez, Alfonso Bueno, Ezekiel Hernandez, Matthew Ortiz, Anthony Rocha, Jaime Cordova Jr., Gilberto Rodriguez Jr., Matthew Azuara, Ryan Prepejchal, Hector Gomez, Daren Garcia, Eduardo Alcantar, Angel Ruiz and Orlando Lopez.
