The Texas Department of Public Safety is looking for the driver of a blue pickup truck who investigators believe caused a fatal crash north of Elsa early Saturday morning that left a 68-year-old motorcyclist dead.

In a news release, DPS said the crash happened at approximately 12:38 a.m. on FM 1925, west of Mile 4 north of Elsa.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the person in the blue pickup was driving southbound on Mile 4 west while someone driving a silver Chevrolet Silverado was traveling westbound on FM 1925, according to the release.

“The driver of the blue pick-up failed to yield the right of way and collided with the Chevrolet. The Chevrolet became disabled on the eastbound lanes of FM 1925,” the release stated. “The driver of the blue pick-up did not stop and fled the scene.”

A few minutes later, Gustavo Vasques Cervantes, of La Villa, was driving his 2006 Harley Davidson eastbound on FM 1926 and collided with the Chevrolet, according to DPS, which said he was pinned under the motorcycle before being taken to DHR Health in Edinburg, where he died.

DPS is asking anyone who knows the whereabouts of the driver and the blue pickup with front-end damage to call (956) 565-7600.

“DPS Troopers are further investigating to obtain the make/model of the blue pick-up that fled the scene,” the release stated.
